About Cutting Board Oil

Our Cutting Board Oil is the perfect choice for protecting, maintaining and restoring wooden kitchen items including cutting boards, butcher blocks, wooden spoons and more.

Regular application will prevent cutting boards from becoming dry, cracked and brittle. Forming a protective barrier, cutting board oil will also prevent liquid from penetrating the surface, working to reduce the proliferation of germs and bacteria.

Our chopping board oil is food-grade, making it perfect for use on items used for food preparation. The oil will never spoil, unlike many alternative treatments. The pure mineral oil penetrates the wood, providing protection, retaining and enhancing the wood's natural colour and character, while also prolonging the lifespan of your wooden kitchen boards, blocks and utensils.

Cutting Board Oil Instructions

Quick and easy to use, just follow these simple instructions for great results using our Cutting Board Oil.

Clean the cutting board

Ensure the surface is clean and dry before use. Wash your cutting board with warm soapy water and leave to dry, lying flat on a countertop.

Cleaning the board first will open up the grain in the wood allowing the oil to penetrate deeper, and more evenly into the cutting board.

Apply the Oil to the cutting board

Apply the Cutting Board Oil liberally and evenly over the board using a clean cloth and leave any excess to soak in overnight. As the Cutting Board Oil soaks in it will nourish and protect the wood.

Once the cutting board feels dry, buff the board using a clean cloth. Repeat the process until you can drip a drop of water onto the wood and it beads up on the surface and does not soak in. This is how to tell if the wood is completely protected.

Cutting board care

Re-apply the oil once a month or as necessary when you see that water is once again starting to be absorbed into the wood. This process will keep your cutting board in pristine condition.

Cutting Board Oil FAQ

Q. Should you oil wood cutting boards?

A. Yes. Applying oil to a cutting board will keep it cleaner, healthier and will also help keep the wood from drying out, splitting or cracking.

Q. How often should I oil my wood cutting board?

A.  We recommend re-applying the oil once a month. You'll notice the wood feeling drier or looking a lighter color. This is a good indication to oil the board again.

Q. How do you seal a wooden cutting board?

A. We're not really sealing wood when we oil it. The Cutting Board Oil soaks into the wood and keeps the wood hydrated; it also stops stains and odors from soaking into the wood and so keeps your cutting board looking and smelling better.

Q. Can you oil a cutting board with vegetable oil?

A. No. Vegetable oils such as olive oil, peanut oil or walnut oil are non-drying and contain fats that oxidise and go rancid. Using such oils can lead to unpleasant odors.

Q. Is your cutting board oil food safe?

A. Yes, it is made from FDA grade mineral oil that is completely safe to use on all items of wood that come into contact with food.
